I purchased this bike rack a couple of months back just after I bought a new road bike and I just noticed that this bike rack is ruining the paint job just under the seat I contacted customer service and still have received a response back yet to resolve this matter. Do not buy this bike rack

Axis 4 recommended

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Only gave 4 stars because while the Axis 4 is a very sturdy and easy to use rack with the wide arms it can be like a jig saw puzzle to get bikes to fit on properly. This is especially true for bikes needing a bike bar, step through type bikes in paticular. Another problem when utilizing a bike bar is that the cross bar strap lines up where bike bar meets seat making it somewhat difficult to strap down. Once bikes are on the rack they hold really well, did notice some sway especially when going over bumps. Just to play it safe when loaded with 4 bikes since only have 1 1/4 receiver I added extra straps to assist in holding up weight as notice about a 1 inch extra distance between hitch and back of car, extra strapping definitely helps lessen sway/movement. Rack is extremely light and easy to get on and off hitch. Support is definitely a plus as when received hitch one arm wasn't holding tight which was due to one thumb screw was 1/16 of inch shorter, contacted company and was immediately sent out 2 new thumb screws. All in all I am quite happy with the Axis 4 and would recommend it.

Just what I needed

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
With a growing family I needed the ability to cart around 4 bikes and this bike rack does exactly that. It's light-weight, appearance looks great, and works just like it is intended too. I have used it will all 4 bikes on it and never felt as if I needed to check it. The tilt feature works great to still be able to get items or the dog in/out of the vehicle while leaving the rack on the vehicle. Being able to buy a quality product like this one from Saris, I know I won't have the need for another one in the future as this one will keep doing its job.

It's a great rack, especially for the price!

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I bought this rack about a month ago and it has been a great value! It came assembled and easy to install and is built quite well considering the price. The only thing I wish it came with is straps for the front wheel to keep it in place.

Does the job

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I bought this because I have been a fan of Saris since I learned about mounts. My only complaint is that they sell a security bolt, but looking at the instructions, there is a simple to circumvent that security measure. I also hope there was a way to remove the straps to put bikes that are unique.

Solid rack with little wobble!

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I've had this rack for about 6 months now, and it has been great; I can confidently a few bicycles and not feel like i have to keep checking to be sure they aren't left on the highway somewhere. My friends say I have a great rack! That being said, the yellow lever to lower the rack for accessing the hatch broke. It's still usable, but one of the sides broke off so it's a little uncomfortable to use now. The only other complaint I have is raising and lowering the arms where the bikes mount to can be a little tricky as one of the sides sticks and needs to be wiggled to loosen it. I'm really happy with this rack!

Super lightweight!

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
I have a small car and wanted something that could carry 4 bikes. Since this bike rack is so lightweight compared to other 4 bike carriers it works well with a 1 1/4 inch hitch. The first time I slid it on the hitch, it was difficult to get all the way on. The same with removing it, for the first time. It required quite a bit of force. Though, the second time I put it back on, it was much easier to get on and off. So, if you have this problem, it'll probably get better with time, but it worried me at first. Also, another negative is that if you have the arms in the down position when it's not in use, the tighteners do not tighten the arms down 100% tight. I am able to move the arms on the smooth surface versus them being engaged on the grooves. I figured out a way of slightly having them on the grooves while still having them away from the bumper. I love the rack overall and would've got the same one if I were to make the purchase again. It's great that I can manage with one hand to bring the rack down and open the hatchback. Other racks, I imagine with the weight that you couldn't manage. Overall, the pros are the weight and low profile. The ratcheting straps can be a pain but, I will say, that difficulty means that it's staying put.

Bought my Axis 4-bike rack last summer. I appreciate its light weight and ease of use. No more hoisting the bikes onto a rack on top of the car, and no more having to remove the front wheels. Makes transporting the bike fleet a breeze!

Works for me!

Cons:
Best Uses:
I bought this last year to transport mostly my kids bikes back and forth from summer daycare and scout camps. It is easy to take on and off. I did get the hitch lock too. I had one of the plastic side end caps break when the hitch was dropped and the company sent me new replacement caps right away for free which was wonderful!!

Nice rack but needs some changes

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
price is right however this rack needs some modifications, it would be nice to have the straps on the top that cradle the bike removable because when I slide my bike to the one closest to the vehicle the two spare holder straps jam me up to slide it to the cradle it grabs the cables on the bike, so I had to tape the two middle ones down looks Bad. Also if one of these straps would go bad you have to replace the whole arm. Also spray all straps with silicone lube it makes them work a lot easier.

Axis Steel

Pros:
Cons:
Best Uses:
Well built, light weight, fits easily into the hitch receiver. 4 bikes fit well, straps snug easily & tilt mechanism is easy & allows good access to back of vehicle. Only minor drawback is the 3/4" bolt in the hitch but that is minor.
